as the body relinquishes its lifetime of control,
the fight becomes harder
the mind may shift, consciousness may drift
it’s never enough time
not even a million years
tethered to two worlds
I’m left with my memories
places and faces cause tears
of remembrance for what was
I know we all change
just as time must pass
but I’d like another go at it
and this time I’d make it last
the outline of an autumn tree
against a sapphire sky
catches my eye
and stilts my breath
as I trapse through the haunts of youth
places still there
but not the same
too much time has passed
smiling through tears
my heart aches as I recall
all I held dear
